All the Dr wants to do is increase meds

Hello all, I've had epilepsy since I was 19, and I've noticed a pattern: often, when I have a seizure, a doctor doesn't want to try to uncover WHY it happened... they just want to change my medication, or the dose, or the frequency. I've had grand mal seizures and absence seizures. The cause of my epilepsy is unknown. I've had EEGs and MRIs. But I want to know - what could be causing the seizures? Why the reflex to just change the meds? Why no search for the CAUSE instead of just a pill? They've identified some common triggers like caffeine, stress, sleep deprivation - I do what I can in these areas - but beyond that, they just go back to the pills. Has anyone else had success with an alternative? I drive so I don't expect to not have to take any medication... but has anyone else gone to a naturopathic doctor? Changed your diet? Done a blood allergy test? Something OTHER than just increase pills when you've had a seizure? Thanks in advance.

had epilepsy since you were 19. A pattern: the dotor doesn't want to try to uncover WHY  just want to change medications or the dose or frequency You have grand mals and absence seizures and they have no cause you've had EEGs amd MRIs  What starts a seizure is an electrical impulse hitting wrong in your brain. They found scar tissue in the left lobes of my brain. That scar tissue is the cause of my epilepsy. The abnormalities are coming from the same area in my brain. So start asking questions and get answers to what is on your EEG and is there another EEG that show more or get more information. You want to know why-what could be causing the seizures. Why the reflex to just change meds. Why no search for the cause.instead just the pill? They've identified the triggerssss listed them. You do what you can in those areas but beyond that, they just go back to pills. Yes you listed a few triggers.. But the list is a lot longer and you probably have triggers that aren't on the list. Again pills are created to keep those electrical impulses from hitting wrong.Has anyone else had success with alternatives? Yes there are other procedures that can be looked at.. That is a questions you should have asked your neurologists. The VNS is one Surgery is another. But the neurologists need to hear from you. Diets can help some people you can find that out on this site. One is the Ketogenic diet. Another is the modified adkins diet. Ask your neurologist about them.. You see questions need to be asked by the patient too. Answeringthe doctors questions only gives the doctors little to work with. Constantly asking questions about meds, procedures, different things like surgery will let them know you want results. You drive and don't expect to not have to take medications..But has anyone else gone to naturopatic doctors? Changed your diet? Something OTHER than just increase pills... Many people have been to other doctors and yes neuropathic or holistic doctors can help but they may never cure, Yoga has helped. Some people use CBD oil medical MJ.The way I got results is by constantly asking questions to all of my neuroloigsts, I have had several since I landed in Dallas back in 1971. All of them have been with the same group. My last one answered some of my questions when h wa an assistant back in the early 1980'sI hope this helpsJoe
