Thu, 05/07/2015 - 16:23

Hi I'm gonna be turning 16 soon and Ik im not supposed to drink yet but in just wondering what would happen but I have had like 9 seizures last year but now it's been a year without seizures and I am on a low dose of trileptal(2 pills morning 3 pills night) and I was wondering if I can drink some alcohol if I wanted to? I'm not sure how or if it would effect me? I've heard different things like don't drink cause it may cause a seizure but some people say if you take a little bit at a time it might not be bad. keep in Mind that I would only be having a little bit for now if any I am just wondering I'm not even sure I will but I'm curious for when I'm a senior and I might be off the medicine for what it may cause or what to do? any comments for this?

So someone that isn't at drinking age is wanting information about alcohol and meds.OK you will hear it from both sides some will say no don't drink while others will say a drink won't hurt. I have heard it from my neurologist and I have has many all with the same group since I have been with them since 1970. Now I understand that your friends may want you to go out and have a drink just like their friends did them. I had friends like that myself. I also knew that a drink now and then might not hurt but more then 1 drink can cause problems with some medications.  For about 10 years I was with friends and we closed down the bars and danced like crazy. Yes I had drinks but in the 5-6 hours I was there only ONE was alcoholic. The person you really need to ask is your neurologist. Mine says a drink now and then will not harm me. But to limit it to 1 drink (beer of wine) every 2-4 hoursI have always had beer or wine in the house just in case someone comes by. Almost all of it gets used up in my cooking
