adderall and seizures
Thu, 03/31/2011 - 21:57I recently/reluctantly put my daughter on ADHD medicine adderall due to her having problems with attention and staying in her seat, listening, so on and so on.
Before that she had not had any seizures that I was aware of for two years, except for one back in Jan. of this year. She started on adderall on March 6. Her behavior did improve but last Sunday, March 27 she had a seizure upon falling asleep. I called her neurologist who said to increase her carbartol to 2 pills twice per day. She is also taking lamictal twice per day. She just had another one, not as long but a seizure nonetheless. I feel that the adderal is causing this increase in seizures.
Has anybody else experienced an increase in seizures while on adderal and can anyone recommend any ADHD meds that do not increase seizures?
Thanks

Many of the central nervous system stimulants - alerting agents - used to treat ADHD (examples: coffee, caffeine compounds, Ritalin, Dexedrine, Adderall and so on) are known to lower the seizure threshold for some of those with epilepsy. The weakest stimulant of the group is the old medicine, coffee/caffeine compounds. That's my understanding.
