simple partials

Sun, 09/17/2006 - 18:06
excuse me if I've posted this before, but I can't find my post, so i'll try again. I hope someone can help. My 12yrold started complaining of a weird feeling or thought that interrupts her activity. It feels like her brain is forcing her to remember something, but it has nothing to do with what she is doing. It's like when you get frustrated "oh where have I seen that guy before". Except she doesn't initiate it. She is fully conscious, can hold her head and talk normally to you and say "hold on, wait for this to pass" and even manipulate the tv controls. It lasts 2 seconds. They bother her. Her neuro things she's having simple partials. Can they be THAT simple? She can be so "with it". Has anyone had one simple symptom and that's all. Do you take medication if that's the only symptom? thanks

Goodmom, Yeah, a lot of my simple's are like that (I'm not diagnosed yet, but I'm reasonably sure it's epilepsy). Sometimes I have a bit of nausea, sometimes a fast heartbeat, sometimes that sick feeling of nervousness in your stomache, sometimes a sort of dizziness. It can last at the least a few seconds, with no interruption in my daily functioning. Good luck with the neuro! Sam

Hi, I am so frustrated with my daughter's doctor right now. She is 8 y.o. and has had an abnormal EEG, one of her seizures was caught on video tape, which the doctor saw. He has previously told us that she had epilepsy, and did not feel she would out grow it. He has put her on 2 different medicines which have made her worse. Her auras are sudden dizziness, headache and throat pain. These have always been her auras, and the number of them have magnified. Occasionally I have seen eye fluttering with it. She is wiped out afterwards, anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. We were told they were simple partials. Yesturday, we had an appointment with him, and it is as if we never have seen him before. I had to tell HIM what the previous EEG said, that her MRI was normal, and that her blood work came back therapeutic levels. He procedes to tell me that he thinks my daughter is not really having seizures and that he wants her evaluated by a psychiatrist. He proceedes to tell me that she is over exaggerating, and may not really be having any problems. I was SO MAD!!! WHY THEN DID HE PUT HER ON AEDs THAT HAVE MADE HER WORSE!!!!!!!!. I could not even complete an entire sentence yesturday. He was not listening at all. We are so changing doctors!!!! There is no way that an 8 year old can "fake" this, much less fake the huge seizure that was caught on video. The only bright side is that she is having a video EEG next week. Am I right that these can all be signs of simple partials???? Does any one in the Atlanta area have a good pediatric neuro, or epileptologist? I am in desperate need of a recommendation. As big as Atlanta is, there seems to only be this one group to go to, Child Neurologist of Atlanta. I am not happy with this doctor that is in this group, but there may be another one that is in this same group that is better. Please give me Info. Thanks, Lori
