It sounds to me that you would benefit from a sleep study...
Continuous Video EEG Monitoring – studies the brain waves over time with a patient staying in a special unit for at least 24 hours. Antiepileptic medication is stopped for the duration of this test, since the objective is for seizures to occur so the abnormal brain waves they produce can be recorded.
A video camera connected to the EEG provides constant monitoring, enabling the medical team to pinpoint the area where a seizure occurs and track the patient’s physiological response to the seizure. Continuous monitoring can also help distinguish between epilepsy and other conditions. It can characterize the seizure type for more precise medication adjustments, and locate the originating area of seizures within the brain.

All but one of my szs have been nocturnal, so no aura. The only way I know I've had one is if I wake up extremely confused, short term memory trashed, and some long term memory compromised.
I just came back from a weekend road trip with friends and only remember 1 of the 3 days :0(
I had a 5 day (I think it was 5) video EEG which turned up nothing except to show I have excessive daytime sleepiness and now also take medicine for that.

If you are having grand mal seizures it is normal. The aura for me only came before the complex partial seizures. I would have a very slight one that felt like the others before I had the grand mal but when into convulsions before I could let anyone know.. good luck to you
