School seizures

Sun, 06/03/2012 - 15:48
My daughter started having seizures this school term her 3rd grade year. The only problem is they only seemed to be happening at school . We have never seen any of them in her. Only the teachers, school nurse and principal have. I am just not sure why they only seem to happen at school and no where else.  They started at 9 years old just before her 10th birthday. She is also in the process of being tested for aspergers. Has asthma, food allergies, alot of outside allergies, kidney problems. She had been diagnosed with ADHD but we have been informed it was a misdiagnosis that it actually could be the aspergers or another type of autism that has been undiagnosed since she was a baby. We have taken her to doctors on top of doctors since she was little but we were always told she would out grow what was happening or it was just phases she was going through. She had always been a A/B honor roll student till after the last major seizure they said she had at school back in December now she is failing most everything. She can read or learn something and 5 minutes later doesnt remember it. She cant keep up with the kids in her class anymore, cries over everything now. Its almost like the last seizure has caused her to regress backwards.Anyone else have this problem with seizures and with them only happening at school and you never seeing them  anywhere else outside of school. Any help in finding more out about this would be greatly appreciated. I am really concerned about her.

I can't really say much, but when I first started having seizures (convulsions and Absence) I was in the 8th grade and completely through junior high 7th and 8th, held a 3.8 GPA. My last quarter of 8th grade, I started having seizures and we didn't know what they were til I had a convulsions during the summer. My 8th grade last quarter GPA ended up being a 2.5! I was stunned, but not surprised because I had noticed it being harder for me to focus and I was in colorguard and was constantly off beat or out of step. I had a couple Absence seizures every hour and it was horrible. Now you mentioned she had allergies, Seizures are triggered by tons of different things, and you don't know what it is until you pay close attention. Maybe she is allergic to something at school and causing the seizures. I,myself, have found to  have more seizures when I take anything with acetaminophen, when the weather is hotter, If I drink anything with citrus, and so on. Have you taken her to a neuroligist? They will do a 24 hour eeg on her. Good Luck.

I suffer from complex partial seizures and when I have one my memory is bad for a couple of days I get bad anxiety and I get depressed. So that could be the affects after she's having a seizure. I recommend you take her to a neurologist. Good luck with everything.
