do people not treat you equally because you have epilepsy? They don't treat me equally.

Pinbuster, I am new to the group and saw your question and felt the need to respond to you. I had Epilepsy all throughout my childhood. I was teased and people made fun of me. I felt really bad about myself.I am a Christian so I sought comfort in God. I prayed a lot and cried a lot during my school years. Kids really don't understand what your going through, if they have never been in your situation. Try to educate them on what you are going through. Don't let this hold you back. Kids can be mean, but don't let their lack of knowledge discourage you in anyway. Good luck to you!! I will be praying for you :)

Dear Pinbuster: My 16 year old daughter has been teased at school because she is a small framed girl where people think she is aneroxia. She has informed some of her closest friends to have inform them of her epilespy condition (even though she has not had a seizure in 3 years.) Some of the people are understanding and some are clueless and I advised her just to ignore them. Are your seizures frequent? May be giving them information like a brochure or info from this website and advise them to read at their convenience and as well as letting them know how serious and that you need to have someone to be your watchful eye. My daughter's does suffer from migranes and her "friends" are aware what happens when she has an oncoming headache like an aura. Good Luck and don't let it stress you out.

I think the problem is kids are scared and uneducated...my 10 year old daughter has daily petit mal seizures, she is known as 'the seizure girl' its very sad, I actually quit my job to work at her school which really has helped, because I can educate the kids and they all just love me, (they think im cool mom)..lol Although my daughter does have LOTS of friends, its still very hard because she stops her lines alot, which is embarrasing to her, cause all the kids have to wait tell her seizure ends to go again, they have even thought she had 'visions' like Raven Samone, because she stares the same way... Its really sad how cruel some can be...
