Puberty Seizures?

Wed, 04/04/2007 - 21:10
My daughter was diagnosed with complex partial seizures when she was 6 years old. By the age of 8 1/2 she was finally seizure free and off all medications. She has not had any seizures until now age 12. She has just started her period. Has anyone ever had any experience with this.

Wow, can't believe it has been 2 years ago I made this post on 4/7/2007!!!   My daughter has been on Lamictal 75mg 2 x a day for the two years.  No seizures at all.  She is scheduled for a 24 hr EEG next month while on her meds to see if there is any signs of seizures before we take her off meds completely.  She made the HS volleyball team and is doing everything a 14 year old does.  I just keep praying that all goes well.

My daughter was diagnosed at birth with a deletion of a chromosome, which caused development delays, and seizures are brought on by these complications.  She has been on seizure meds for 7 or 8 years.  She is now 12.  1 or 2 seizures is a way of life almost every month.  For the first time last week she began having seizures 6 days in a row and 2 of those days, 3 seizures in 1 day.  Her cycle began on Friday, I believe hormones contributed to onset of more seizures plus as she grows she needed her trileptal increased.  So her doctor did so when we took her to the hospital last week.  Good Luck with your daughter, I know what you are going through.

I see so many comments abut

I see so many comments abut teenage girls who experience seizures, but anyone out there who has a boy that has had this?  I have a 13 yr old who had his first seizure at age 12, second one two months later. He went 1 1/2 years seizure free and then BOOM!  Seizure three weeks ago. His Keppra was increased and then he has another seizure today. My question is... Is there any possibility of this just being caused by puberty?
