My son is two and had his first seizure in January.  It was a grand mal.  He had an EGG and everything was normal.  He started Keppra.  Two weeks ago he had two grand mals seizures in one day.  Now they ordered an MRI.  I am terrified that it could be a tumor.  I have awful anxiety.  Has anyone else had a similar experience with their child?

MRi's are one of the tests

MRi's are one of the tests most neurologists use. True it could be a tumor. But then it may come back normal too. The neurologists will be looking for anythnig different from a normal brain. Which means ANYTHING. If they see something they will be looking at things in that area on the EEG which could show a little more. With me I had 20-25 regular EEG's all came back normal. I had been tested and everything looked normal. The last tests in the battery of tests done in a week was ANOTHER EEG in which I fell asleep in. In that EEG they found abnormalities. By seening where they came from they then checked the Neuro-angeogram (MRI of the 1960's) in that area and they found scared brain tissue from a hemmorage to the brain, The neurologist said it happened before or after birth. Well my current neurologist wanted to see if there was a procedure that could get me completely seiizure free and he basically ran the same tests. The hemmorage ws from a blow to my head between 6-8. I know it was when I was 7 but it took a lot of going back wince I am in my 60's As for keppra It is becomming the go to medication and it does work well. I have been using it for many years. It takes time for your body to get used to a medication. Which is generally when people will have side effects. During that timme period you need to note any seizures and anything different during that day. If he is to take meds 2 times a day please give them to him 12 hours apart. I take mine at 8 am and pm. If I take the evening meds at 11 the 3 hour delay could cause what are refered to as breakthru seizures, I would also suggest you get the MyEpilepsy Diary which can be found on any page in theis site. Watch the video and give his neurologist permission to use it . By doing that the neurologist can bring up the graphs and toeht information which can help him come up with different medications, procedures oe dosages. In the diary there is a note pad which is where you can note each day and if seizures happen then note them and near the top you can put in the time of day and the length of the seizure.. The diary can help you since you can note it. RAther then writting thngs on pieces of paper and possiably forgetting a paper or 2.. As Amy Jo posted relax and move on from this point. Mothers are great and do want their children to have things better then they had it. I know if it weren't for a mothers prayer I wouldn't be here.  I hope your son gets seizure free Joe Please come back and let us know how things went
