So your son is having seizures at night and is starting to take topamax. You posted he has been having day time seizures for 4 1/2 years. Is the topamax being added to his other medication or will it be the only medication he takes? Topamax had been used by many people with epilepsy. Generally a neurologist prescribes medications that he has other patients on which are being used and are controlling a patients seizures. If you are worried about side effects all medications have them and that includes over the counter meds. Generally 5-8% of the people taking the medications get those side effects and many will post about those side effects. You will probably never see anything from the 92-95% that have not had any side effects and the medication is doing good and stopping or reducing the number of seizures they were having. You might want to see if there is some form of equipment either out or being tested which can set off an alarm if and when a person goes into a seizure. My neurologist is associated with a testing center and at times I hear or check on the tests to see if there is one in which I might help and I do know they were having one on equipment but I am not sure exactly what it was. I do hope this helps and your sone gets seizure free. Joe
