Hello everyone, I have a 16 year old son that started having seizures a year ago, he was on levetiracetam, but after the continuous seizures the doctor changed the meds, he started taking Keppra a month ago;however he had a seizure 2 days ago. I have been doing my own research on everything regarding seizures. He was diagnosed with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy. He has seizures upon awakening. I wanted to know more about other families living with epilepsy. My son seems to be in denial and tells me all the time I am to over protective with him. I am his mother and kills me to see this is happening. I have tried talking to him about epilepsy, but he does not want to hear it. I think he is upset to know this is happening to him. Did anyone have this situation with any of their family members going thru this?

I am glad I joined this site

Welcome.  My daughter was diagnosed with JME as well at 10.5.  She actually only had the myoclonics so I left it untreated for abit but she ended up having a tonic clonic.  So We started medicine and the myoclonics and abscence seizures became worse before they got better .  We found Depakote to be very effective but believe everyone w hen they say........its different for everyone.  My daughter is 12 now but does not talk about epilepsy either.  Tomorrow she has friends coming and as she put it , "must remove evidence".......so she'll hide medicine .  I hope she'll come to accept it better.....Its been 2 years now.  She will talk with me about it.  Your son may be concerned with driving and may have googled some info and is upset and does need to chat about it.    Best wishes to you as you deal with all the new issues you will face
