My Future With Absence Seizures

Fri, 11/14/2014 - 01:07

Hi all, I am new to this forum and it is comforting to know there are people just like me. A little background information: I was diagnosed with Child Absence Seizures (petit mal) in 2006 as a 6th grader. I have grown and tried different medications, Depakote is my current medication. I am curious if anyone is familiar with with the outcome of absence seizures. I have only had the partial seizures where I blank for a few seconds, never have had a grand mal seizure. There is a possibility, however; now that I am in college I have heard it is very slim for me to have a convulsion. I guess my question is does anyone know of anyone or experienced a grand mal seizure while they have had absence seizures, or after they have stopped having absence seizures? This possibility has been weighing on me for quite some time, and I would just like some clarity, thanks.

I started having seizures

I started having seizures arround the time you did. I had been written up as a daydreamer in class. Those day dreams were seizures. As for can a person have convulsive seizures welllllllll yes in some cases and no in others. It depends on several things. With me I was doagnosed with Grand Mal, Petite mal and Focal motor epilepsy. The diagnosis was made back in 1963. I had had wierd feeling in my right hand at times but said nothing about them since they happened after I was digging the garden and working with my hands. Up there I payed no attention since my grades were among the highest in class. Then I had a grand mal at school. Now if you look at the post there you will see that there are 3 different types of seizures and I have 3 different types of epilepsy. The last grand mal I had was in 1970.which is a long time ago. I still have focal seizures. However none of them have generalized. When a focal seizure generalizes the seizure changes from one point to the entire brain. So the seizure starts wit hmy hand either feeling wierd or I can't move my fingers. Generalizing means it moves and covers the entire brain which makes the seizure become convulsive. That convulsion would look like a grand mal. I haven't had one of the convulsive ones since 1970 either. The seizueres I have today afe focal seizures, simple partial seizures and they last for seconds. If I were you I would not think about me seizures changing or going into another type. Until it happens if it does you should not worry about it. You are putting th cart before the horse. Worrying about something that may never happen. I hope this helps Joe
