landau kleffner syndrome

Sun, 12/17/2006 - 12:53
To all who read this blog: I have a nephew who is 5 years old. He was speaking until right before his 3rd birthday he stopped speaking. We all thought he had autism but later found out that he was having seizures at night. He was later diagnosed with Landau Kleffner Syndrome. For the past two years he has been taking medication that has controlled his seizures at night. Thank God! He still does not speak. We are planning to learn and teach him sign language so there is a way for him to communicate with us. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who can give us doctors you can recommend?? We are willing to travel anywhere to get our little guy help. Any suggestions you have or comments on medicine/side effects on medicition, etc. or any information you know about the syndrome that is worth us knowing about. Thank you and look forward to hearing from you. God bless and take care!
