I really need help

Thu, 03/29/2007 - 12:43
Hi! My 12 yr old started having seizures again. She has been seizure free for 2 months. She does not have a lot of gran mal seizures when she does have them, but this past Tuesday she had 2 with an hour, and 2 on Wednesday morning. She also had one gran mal today, and an absense one. She has missed school both days. She is in the 5th grade. She struggles every day with school work. My husband and I started talking about homeschooling her, but I really can't afford to do this. Does anyone out there have any advice on this subject? Is there something out there that helps families like mine? Thanks!

Don't think I can help much, but what you can do is just keep her in school. It'll be good if she makes friends. At home, its hard to home school and there isn't much friends around. Some people don't like being home all day unless they can help it. Think the best thing is to try getting it under control as soon as possible. I've had mines since I was in the 5th grade too. I struggled with my seizures and my grades. My grades were actually quite good until I got my seizures. I used to be an A or A+ student. But ever since I became epileptic, I became a C and C- student. I'm now 18 and still am trying my best to deal with my seizures my way. You could give her a choice if she wants to go to a public school or not. ~Sophs

Thanks for your comment. There is a problem at school. She has no friends. No one wants to hang around someone with seizures. She tells me everyday she hates school. Sometimes I wonder if she is faking the absense seizures just to get out of school. I guess this is why I feel so lost. I know she doesn't want to go to school.

Hello, I don't know that I can help much....my son w/ e is only 8. But what I do know is puberty and stress are big factors for breakthrough sezures. Sounds like your daughter is having both. I feel for your sitition. School is very stressful for my son. We have thought about homeschooling as well yet have ruled it out there are too many "cons" not enough "pros"....Hang in there, visit this site often, and try chatting here.. It has helped me. Also you may have an epilepsy support group held near you. Take care, mom of DM
