Mon, 02/22/2016 - 16:25

Hello, Im Denise. My daughter has been getting seizures since she was 6 months old, she will be 3 in august. They started as Febrile seizures but since her 4th one lasted about 2 hours thats when they put her on medication. She started off with Keppra but the made her liver levels rise so much. Then they switched her to a different but it made her blood pressure drop and was getting seizures every 2 weeks to every 2 days. So on April 2015 they switched her medication to topamax. was working very well for her up until September . so now EVERY single time she gets sick she gets a seizure , short ones and long ones, They have done a mri , eeg tests and they come out normal. they still dont know why she gets seizures. they assume she will outgrow them . But im just tired of them changing her medications all the time and seeing her get different side effects from them, Ive read amazing reviews of cbd. Im juist a desperate mommy trying to find a cure for my daughter. We live in southern california, i need help finding out how to get the cannabis card for my toddler

welcome Mereloaded posted the answers to your question about MJ so discuss the issue with her neurologist. As for medications and her having seizures when she is sick. Any and all medications I have been using are affected when I got sick. The illness brings the therapeutic levels down since the body is trying to fight the illness. If the Topamax was working then relax some and understand that as her body grows the dosages may need changing. Most medications and dosages are set with the weight of the person taking it. As she grows the dosage may need to be raised. When I was diagnosed I was about 12, When I changed to a teen my dosages needed to be changes 4-5 times in a 8-10 month period. I grew about 8-10 inches in height and gained close to 50 lbs. The changes reduced the number of seizures I was having. During your discussion with her neurologist about MJ ask them about dosages and if they need to be increased. Also understand that getting the right medication and dosage has always been a trial and error situation. A medication and dosage that works for one person may not work for the next. If that were the case then one medication would be all that is needed. Each person is different. People need to give the medications time since it takes 4-6 weeks for the body to get used to it and that amount of time lets the therapeutic level where the neurologist wants them. Like most people that read posts about this medication to that medication they read about how bad they are or were for that person. They fail to understand that any and all medications have side effects. That includes over the counter medications. Have you ever read the list of your over the counter meds?? Aspirin can kill some people. Now I know how some of those side effects get listed. I have been in drug studies for new medications for epilepsy and their seizures. For most side effects 5-8% of the people taking it may get a side effect. Those will be the people that wrote how it affected them. You won't see anything from the other 92-95% of the people that have had no side effects and the medication had been working fine for them. You said she had a side effect from Keppra. Well you will see posts about that all over the place. Many people changed the name to KepRAGE . Yet for me it has been the best medication I have ever used in the 50+ years I have been living and dealing with epilepsy. Mereloadeds son is taking it and it helped him go without seizures for a long period of time. So many people know about this medication or that one. Trial and error takes time but getting it set just right does happen. It just takes time and always asking questions. Whether it is in a visit to the neurologist or in a phone call. I have always kept a good relationship with my neurologist just to have my questions answered in a call. I got my answers in a call back, At times the answer was there and another visit was 2=3 months later. That visit was to see if the answer was working like we wanted it to. I am well aware of what mothers go thru. My mother went thru a lot. I was always taking meds late or forgetting them for hours. That is another thing you need to know. If meds are prescribed 2 times a day those times need to be 12 hours apart unless the doctor states otherwise
