Grand Mal Seizures at 15

Tue, 07/08/2014 - 01:33

Hi, I had petiete mal seizures when I was a kid, but was declared seizure free when I was 11. A month and 8 days ago I fainted in the middle of a school presentation and woke up in the ambulance on the way to the ER, later finding out that I had fallen, smashed my head, and had a seizure. My doctors accredited it to dehydration and I was left unmedicated, but then 8 days ago I had another seizure in the middle of the day, when I was sitting down, and fully hydrated. Now I am back on medication. I just need the facts. Whats the chance I will grow out of these again, is there any possibility they were not actually my epilepsy returning, and what kind of life can I expect if worst comes to worst?

welcome Andrew What kind of facts would you like???  I know that many people grow out of epilepsy after childhood. I also know that a person can have more then 1 kind of epilepsy and more then 1 kind of seizure.  I am speaking from what happened to me. I had been written up for day dreams and I also had a wierd feeling in my hand at times and never said anything about them since I thought it might have been because I over excerted them. I had a grand mal seizure while at school. . The diagnosis Mom was given was Grand Mal, Petite Mal and Focal Motoe epilepsy. Yup 3 different kinds of epilepsy. SO when you were young you might have had other kinds of epilepsy without knowing it. My day dreaming was actually petite mal seizures. Those wierd feeling in my hand were focal seizures. Chances??? People do grow out of epilepsy. Others take medications and their epilepsy is controlled. Some are taken off their meds and then some take meds and don't have seizures. Several things are dependent on where in your brain you have seizure activity comming from. Oh and there are some people that have sergury who don't have seizures any more. More has been done in the last 15 years then the 65 years before. Much more is being done. Newer medications do work and they not only reduce or stop the seizures. They can also shorten the time in teh seizure and the time to get back to normal. what kind of life can I expect if worst comes to worst  Basically you are what you want to be. You might want to use google of biing and type in " famous people with epilepsy" You might be surpraise to see some of the names on the list. I wish you luck and I do hope you get the assistance you need to get seizure free Joe

OH I forgot.... My cousin also had epilepsy and yes she grew out of it. She got married to a good man, has had a great job, the family is great so I know that people can grow out. Me I know the cause of my epilepsy and I don't think scared brain tissue can be healed fast.
