DRIVING [Medical Review Board sucks]

Sun, 12/14/2008 - 20:13
Yeah, so pretty much I have been seizure free for a little over a year now. I am a pretty good driver (been practicing with my learner's permit) and I am READY to get my regular license. In the state of FL, if you have had a seizure in less than 24 mo., you need doctor's approval to drive and it needs to be reviewed by the state. It takes forever for the medical review board to go over the doctor's note. I'm talking 3 weeks. On top of that, the doctor doesn't have the form so I won't have my license for two months. UGHdagdjahsdhas! I am 19 years old and this is so frustrating. I can finally get my license and I have to wait forever! =(

so how long do you have to be seizure free for to get your lincense in Fl. I live in Sarasota. I'm sixteen, and wanting to get it, but i thinking i wont be able to because i had a seizure a month ago. And, not even sure if the doc will let me get one.

but, im just wondering.

thanks.

hey gabi =) you have to be seizure free for atleast 6 months to be elligible to drive in florida. if you don't have your license, that means going through the process i am in. if you are seizure free for 2 years, you don't need to get evaluated.

hey I'm 17 and in VA it's 6 months too. But seriously listen, don't rush it. I had been seizure free for about 7 months when last week I had a seizure while driving home the morning after New Years and crashed into an electric pole going 45 MPH. I dont' remember any of it...all I remember is everything is fine, then the next thing I know I'm being surrounded by paramedics. It was the scarriest and most confusing thing ever. So yup now I can't drive for quite a while and I'll admit it, I'm totally pissed. But I also understand that I shouldn't be behind the wheel of a car right now...so yup you'll get your licence soon enough but when you do be careful. I have JME and I know I'm not supposed to drive early in the morning especially when I don't get enough sleep but I did instead and look where it left me. So make sure you're completely awake when you drive and haven't been feeling weird and like jittery that day.  But I have a question, you're only 19 too and do you ever feel like you're weird for having this disorder? I don't know anyone at my school that has it so it just makes me feel so messed up!
