my child began having siezures just before his 13th birthday the fits are long 7plus minutes up 25 fitting and ticing for up to 25 minutes after he has double /treble fits during the night. usually just after he doses off sometimes at 3/4 in the morning and just before he gets up he appears to be in a stroke after the fitting subsides. he is totally limp and has no body tone his eyes are fixed and glazed he does not respond to sound or light he will go to sleep and get up tired with a headache. he is usually exhausted or irratated easily the next day he has no memory of anyone or anything happening. he is no longer treated under paediatrics and is not referred to any adult epilepsy clinic i'm on my own with this and don't know when this is risky for him or when to go back to my G.P like most of you i've been told it is usual for the kids to grow out of this at puberty or so but they usually get it at 3-12 years then grow out of it is anyone there at the other end of the process and if so did their kid start late with this and how long did it take to grow out of it were they medicated and if so was it useful or not thanks

Hi.. I gather you are from the UK. Without any malice intended, I'd ask that you please know the word 'fit' is not liked, or used, in North America (& this is a North American ~US~ site). re:the fits are long 7plus minutes up 25 fitting and ticing for up to 25 minutes after he has double /treble fits "A prolonged seizure (usually defined as lasting longer than 30 minutes) or a series of repeated seizures; a continuous state of seizure activity; may occur in almost any seizure type. Status epilepticus is a medical emergency, and medical help should be obtained immediately.Close) is a medical emergency. If not stopped within about 30 minutes, it may cause permanent injury or death." http://www.epilepsy.com/101/ep101_death.html re: i've been told it is usual for the kids to grow out of this at puberty or so but they usually get it at 3-12 years then grow out of it is I was also told I'd likely outgrow epilepsy and I never did. I have had it since age 3. Besides, only certain forms of E (and there are over 40) are even possibly outgrown. So don't focus on that 'possibility'..accept and love your child as he is now & I'd suggest you take him to a new physician (asap) and get him on meds that will control these seizures. (75% of people with E are completely controlled) best wishes :) ~sol

It sounds like he needs to see a neurologist ASAP. Obviously he isn't going to grow out of them anytime soon. Some do, some don't. He needs to be on medication to control his seizures. When his seizures are controlled, he should sleep better and have a more productive day. It'll be better for him and you. It is also common for seizures to occur going into sleep and coming out of sleep. You need to talk to his neurologist to have him prescribe a medication for you to give him during his longer seizures. That way he snaps out of them sooner, and his brain won't be going crazy as long.
