Discipline & Parenting with Epilepsy

Thu, 09/10/2015 - 10:08

How do you discipline and hold a child accountable when they have frequent absence seizures?

My 12 yr old daughter is on Keppra (which makes her very angry and mean) plus Onfi and trying Fycompa (hopefully getting her off Keppra). She struggles in school because of frequent absence seizures and struggles to listen and do as she's told at home. Half of the issue is that she's not hearing us because she's having a seizure but I'm afraid she's also learning to use epilepsy as a crutch or an excuse.

Does anyone else struggle with this? How do you parent your child with epilepsy??
