Valproic acid or Depacote is bad news. It causes weight gain, and loss of hair. Those are the 2 biggies I can think of for a little girl. Ask your Dr. about topamax or lamictal. Valpro is not good.

Here is a page on Juvenile Absence Epilepsy: http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/epilepsy_juvenileabsence.html Symptoms of a seizure: http://www.epilepsy.com/101/ep101_symptom.html Please try not to concern yourself with another person's drug side effects. We're all different and avoiding something due to another's problem, could, possibly, nix the one med that would get your daughter controlled. JAE is known to be outgrown in the majority of cases, but please live for today and do NOT depend on that to come true (cross your fingrers, of course) as not all of those with JAE outgrow the condition. My best wishes to you and your daughter, ~sol
