B6 caused seizures in my son!

Sat, 09/26/2015 - 12:27

Hello, my son is 16 and he doesn't have seizures as long as he doesn't forget to take his Keppra. Recently he had 2 seizures without forgetting to take his meds which concerned me greatly. I had recently started him on some basic supplements, including a b complex. I reasearched the b vitamins and found a page on the Mayo Clinic web site that said that high doses of b6 can cause seizures and nerve pain. So I stopped the b complex  and brought him in to get his blood tested for several things including some B vitamins. Turns out he has high levels of b6 in his blood even after stopping the b clompex for a few days. No more seizures since I stopped the B6 and stopping all forms of b6 (including food) and will test him in a few weeks to see if it has gone down. I suspect he has a MTHFR gene mutation which I'v heard is quite common. The mutations on this gene make it so you have a hard time with dealing with b-vitamins. Anyone else notice any of the b vitamins causing seizures?
