anxiety and E

Fri, 04/20/2007 - 15:23
Does anyone Know or have a child experiencing anxiety? My daughter is 9 and has been diagnosed with e for a year now. We are on her second medication now zarontin and seem to be seizure free for a month but she is really anxious and scared of dying. Is it medication or a stage or could it be from the E. Maybe if some one else who has seen this in there child could let me know. Thanks teresa

I have not been through Zarontin so I do not know if it can be medication related. My son has had anxiety related to his epilepsy. It is a common Co-morbid for some with epilepsy as much as 40 % either anxiety or depression....it can be a phase, it can be medication....I would talk it over with her neurologist. It is certainly a red flag that needs to be looked into. Talking this over with her and reassuring her is a great thing. Seeing if she could benefit from some counceling or a medication to help with the anxiety might be necessary as well. The neuro would also know if the Zarontin can raise anxiety. Hang in there....My son's anxiety level was going up by age 11 for many reasons. It escalated to severe by age 15 and we almost lost him....better to act proactively. G
