Advice?

Hi, so two years ago I was diagnosed with tonic-clonic epilepsy, but have only had 2 full blown seizures in my lifetime. Before my diagnosis I had quite regular absence seizures, but once I was prescribed to Tegratol they stopped. Back then I hardly ever took my medication, because it made me nauseous and drowsy, but I never experienced any form of seizures, even after not taking my medication for weeks on end. I am now on Epilim and there are no negative side effects so far, but honestly I've only taken it once or twice in the few months I've been prescribed to it. I'm supposed to be taking 200mg twice a day, everyday. I know I should follow my doctors advice and take them as directed, but my seizures have never returned at the rate I'm going. Should I stop taking them all together? Or should I continue at the pace I'm at?

You should discuss this issue

You should discuss this issue with your neurologist. A person can for long periods of time without a seizure and decide to stop taking medications and do really well for 1-2 months and wind up in the hospital for over a month because they shouldn't have stopped taking their medications without the neurologist knowing it or knowing how you were doing because you need to ne gradually taken off your medications. I know I was the one in the hospital for about 2 months.Always ask questions and you take your meds as directed. Think about this. "Would you have taken your medications if you had a heart ailment instead of epilepsy??
