3.5 year old with epilepsy

My son has been having seizures for a couple if years now. At first it was thought to be febrile seizure but now we have been told it is epilepsy. He has been taking Tegretol, 8ml in morn, 8ml afternoon and 12ml at night. They have been upping his Meds and he had another seizure. I'm guessing they will change meds next. It's so saddening when he has seizures. Is it normal for a almost 4 year old to grow out if this? I sure hope he doesn't have to be on mess his whole life.
