3 year old on Keppra

Topic: Living With Epilepsy - Youth

My 3 year old has been on Keppra for over a year and it seems like her outburst get worse! I don't know if it is her being her 3 year old INDEPENDENT self or maybe the Keppra. I am not one to use her medication as a crutch and I just think it is just how she is....but she is the SWEETEST child and the littlest thing will set her off into a "melt down" I had read some things about giving her a B6 Vitamin and even my doctor said I could...has anyone else tried adding the B complex vitamin and had results?! Thanks!

my son is 3 1/2 yrs old and has been on keppra for just over 2 years now. He is definately a handful too, but you need to talk to the doc anyway. I doubt that it is the meds if you haven't noticed it until now. But you should still mention it to the nuero. Good Luck

No she has always had these "melt downs" since she had started the meds which just happened to be right before she turned two. So I always just thought it was "terrible twos". I was just wondering if anyone has put their kids on vitamins and if it helped with "melt downs" I know the difference in her being a kid and something not being 100% right. It seems on days she eats healthier or better she is not as out of wack....but then again I can only force her to eat so much she is miss INDEPENDANT :) I think I am going to add a B supplement and just see how it goes :)

Stef, I'm sorry that I am responding so late. But I don't know if you have started the B6 or not but I have known a few parents who give it to their children and it seems to help to an extent. I know that we started Keppra on our daughter when she was 20 months old and I noticed her behavior take a turn for the worse almost instantly. We took her off of the Keppra a month or so later and she was put on a variety of other medications and her behavior never really calmed down. However I have noticed now (she just turned 3) that her behavior problems has a direct correlation to seizure activity. So I wouldn't be totally surprised if my daughter behavior problems weren't seizure and medication related. Are your daughter seizures under control with Keppra? If the behavior problems are becoming too much for you to want to deal with, could you talk to your neurologist and consider trying another medication? We switched medicines whenever Kaitlyn's behavior would be impacted too much. You don't have to settle for the behavior to be that way, there are other options. I thought in a way that Kaitlyn's behavior was to an extent terrible two's but my motherly instinct always said that there was more to it. Other people never listened until this past week because Kaitlyn had been seizure free for 3 months, then had 2 seizures back to back and seriously, the second her seizure was over, her behavior was back to that awful rip roaring, ready to go behavior. So it totally validated that it was mostly seizure related for her. I hope I helped a little bit. I don't get on here much anymore.
