Working with epilepsy

Has anyone ever been in a position due to their seizures and treatment where they have had to step back and say "It seems to be in everyone's best interest if I leave this job."? I'm finding myself there right now. I'm full, overloaded, and tired. I'm weak and stressed and gaining weight. I have more to do than I can handle. My boss has been very understanding in giving me the time I need for appointments. Yet, when I go to speak to him to follow up with him, he sits and points out all the areas in which I am failing. It is hard. My brain is mush. I'm broken. How do you deal with this in the workplace?

Dear Mousie, I think that at times we find our situation changing, and if our job cannot change with it, we need to find a new one. I was a babysitter up until last month, when the parents decided that they should find someone else. I was a little disappointed, yet glad I didn't have to make the choice to stop. I knew I wasn't doing all I could for those kids cause I was tired and stressed all the time. I am now at home with just my 3 year old, and life is a little easier. I am planning to try to get a job as a social worker, which I am sure will come with its own challenges, but I have to at least try. I don't think there is any shame in trying something different, or admitting to yourself that you just can't do the same amount/type of work anymore. You will be much happier with a job that you can do well that doesn't add to your stressload, whatever that job might be. Accentuate your strengths! Good Luck! Sam

I have set an appointment with my boss. Plan of attack, lay out the priorities of the job and what I am capable of doing. Anything else must be laid aside. If this is unacceptable, then they are free to find someone else. I need to know, how do I let them know that I am willing to step down without considering it discrimination and without outright quitting?

i am in the same boat- i live in Oklahoma where they can dismiss u from ur job without notice or reason and u cant do anything about it, i was fired once because i let my boss know that i had the condition (in case it should happen at work) and she fired me specifically because of it and i filed an EEOC claim and didnt get a thing out of it but wasted time.... i am in a position now (i work for an internet call center in sales) where i am not elible by their standards for short-term disability leave, personal leave, or medical leave of absence, or FMLA
