WHY THEY SAY US DIFFERENTLY

Fri, 02/20/2015 - 21:38

I have had epilepsy since i was 13 and growing up people including relatives would say 'You will never find  anyone no one will want you in their lives with this disorder'. When i finally started my first serious relationship they stopped. But then I had this couple family freinds of my partners start 'Leave her she has epilepsy find another women'.  I was no different to them only that I obviously knew the meaning of  respect and I have a heart.

Looking for a job they were just as discriminative . On the 3rd interview i decided not to tell them I had it and then I got the job.  Why should we have to be discriminated against .

Weight gain from the medication i was a size 10 and ballooned after been on very high doses of Epilim. I was suddenly discriminated against regarding my weight. I ate healthy  we didn't even know what a take away Pizza, soft drink or any of that take out food tasted like and I would always excersise.  But the discrimination kept on going on.

Stress , trauma and insomnia is I believe the biggest part of why seizures occur.  Now I  found out I might have diabeties and I don't even eat cakes and busicuits on a regular basis . I only eat these types of foods during festive occassions.  I put it down to the Keppra that  I have been put on which gives you many different symptoms including insomnia, depression, anxiety and much more which also bring on stress.  I think if we found ways of not been stressed then we would be seizure free but how can you live a life without stress is the biggest question that no one has the answer too.

So it is the keppra that

So it is the keppra that causes your insomnia, depression, anxiety and much more which also bring on stress. But are you looking at the side effects which generally last 4-6 weeks after starting the medication? I have had a job that many people could not handle and it contained a lot of stress. I left the stress at the door when I left work.  You are the one holding you back and not the others you seem to think discriminate against you. When I was diagnosed wit hepilepsy they were still putting people with epilepsy in homes away from the public. (1960's) There were still some states that wouldn't let people with epilepsy get a marriage license. (1970's)  The reason some people do not or will not accept you is because of the stigma associated with epilepsy. That stigma has been arround for thousands of years. Look back and you would see Cesar had the falling sickness. You can't change people. But you can bring information out that makes them think differently. By letting them define what you can and can't do you are hindering yourself. Do research and bring up facts and figures that can show them what we can do.  Research and tell them what a seizure is. In simple terms all a seizure is "is an electrical impulse going off in th brain wrong causing a chain reaction".  Yup electrical impulses. EEG the first E is electro.  I had friends walk away from me when they heard I had epilepsy. I research what epilepsy was and wrote a essay on it. By doing that and giving them information I had many of them walk back. They understood more.  I also asked them why they didn't walk away tfrom Sarah since she had a hearing aid. Or bob since he used crutches, Or jack since he wore glasses. You see they all had ailments that could be seen. I have one that can't be seen but you will back away from me and not them WHY. It made them think. Also giving them names of important people that had epilepsy really got them. All of that can be found in research. You need to control your epilepsy and not let others and epilepsy control you.

There will be someone who

There will be someone who will come along and love you unconditionally. Just because you're epileptic doesn't make you any different than any other human being out there. When I met my boyfriend, he immediately came out and told me he's an epileptic. I didn't look at him any differently then and I still don't now. He's the best part of me. People can be cruel and Insensitive but ignore them. I'm sorry about your family being that way. My boyfriends seizures are caused from stress and lack of sleep, so we do our best to avoid that, which is difficult. Who lives a stress free life? I hope everything turns around for you. Just keep your head up and constantly remind yourself that you're the same as everyone else :)
