what food or drink makes your seizures worse?

Tue, 03/03/2015 - 10:00

Simple question: what food or drink makes your seizures worse?

1. I love fizzy juice but stopped drinking it due to it making my seizures worse, was told it was the caffeine!

2. Obviously too much sugar is bad for anyone but I'm one who goes weeks without sweets then goes on a binge.

3. Sugary breakfast cereals, another thing I had to stop now its fibre this fibre that.

I haven't changed my diet

I haven't changed my diet because I have seizures.I drink what I feel like drinking. I do check the sugar free things I eat or drink because some have aspertame in them which can cause a person to have seizures if they are seizure prone. Tea and coffee are most of what I drink. Try a pot oov coffee and once that is finished I then drink tea sweetened tea black coffee. So I do drink drinks that f=have caffeine.SUgar tooI make my own cinnimon rolls and believe me they get loaded with sugar. You name it and I have eated it. As for breakfast cereal. I have them in the pantry, However I do have a lot of cereals that I don'r add sugar to. Raisn brand crunch doesnant need any. Neither do some of the others that have granola and honey already in them. oh and I do have cholocate binges and other things loaded with sugar . You are no different then your next door neighbor. All you need to do is use some common sense. Your medication levels may be at the low therapudic level and some things might let a seizure come up. I have had that happen and I asked Doc about my dosages need to be raised or lowered. I hope this helps

Same here. Carbohydrate

Same here. Carbohydrate overload never does me well if it's a sugary treat, like coconut cream pie or a slice of cake. However, if I do "balance" it with eating a carby item that is high in fiber like a cereal I tend to be okay. It's weird, but it is what it is. It's probably as how ketogenic diets (stage 1 atkins) is used to treat difficult epilepsy or children. Carbs speed up our brains and we seem to be sensitive, or, at least some of us.

well after being on AED's I have not had anymore seizures as far as me or anyone around me has noticed and i drink a ton of caffeine. I had cut way back to about 1 20oz soda a day then i got on these AED's and they seem to drag me down and make me feel like I have no energy so i have gone back to having 2 monsters almost every morning and soda constantly.
