Hi Stefie My son is on lamictal. He's only started a month ago, so he'll still settle into it. So far he's been very emotional, tired, diarree, a 3-day rash and headaches in the evenings. My husband took Triptanol for his migraines. First for 3 months (only side effect was sleepiness at the end of the day), and it stopped it for a year! Then, when it came back, he took the meds for 6 months. It's been three years since his last migraine! He still gets extremely bad headaches, but no migraines anymore!!! Good luck, and take care Essie (mom to Nian(5) with epilepsy)

Dear Stef, This link should answer all your questions. http://www.epilepsy.com/medications/b_carbamazepine_intro.html Use the pull-down menu to look at the next med. Good Luck, Sam

At first when I was diagnosed last year, and my neuro was adjusting my meds, (which were toooo high)..... I started off on the regular carbamazepine (the white pills)...all I did was sleep. He took me off of those, and then put me on a high dose of Dilantin. WELL! If THAT wasn't a whole new ball game....my hair was falling out, I was having auditory hallucinations, crying all the time, then my lymph nodes became swollen, only to find out that my blood was at a toxic level! I am now on 200mgs of Tegretol CR per day and have been seizure free for 1 year. At first I became slightly drowsy, and my appetite would decrease, and I would have ringing in my ears. Sometimes I would even have a slight neuralgia in my face. But I've outgrown the side effects. :) Mild side effects are the least of my worries. I'd rather have no seizures!!!!
