weird seizure triggers?

Tue, 05/23/2006 - 13:30
Hello, I am new to the forum. I have been having symptoms which lead my neurologist to believe I'm having simple and complex partial seizures; he has tentatively diagnosed me with TLE and I've been on 500mg of Keppra twice a day for about a month. I've been having my seizures since late last summer, and they started with OVERWHELMING feelings of deja vu and jamais vu. They seemed to happen every time I was at the gym in the morning, but I initially chalked that up to coincidence. I have been a group fitness instructor for 11 years, love to teach, and love to be at the gym, so I know that in itself isn't a source of stress for me, but I'm coming to the inevitable conclusion that something there is triggering seizures. The last two times I've been there, I've had seizures. I did a little bit of research on low blood sugar, elevated body temperature, and dehydration being seizure triggers, but none of these seem to be significant factors--I drink plenty of water, and I don't work myself to the point of exhaustion or anything. I have seizures other different circumstances, too, but this seems to be the most dependable trigger. Has anyone had a similar experience, or does anyone have insight into this, or other unexplainable seizure triggers they could share? I need to figure this out!

Heidi, hope all is better now but I had to add as a couple others have that the smell of the gym is what could be one of your triggers. I could be silly but one of my triggers is certain smells usually paints and such. Maybe the bleach or cleaning agents are yours. Good luck with everything! Jeff

I have noticed my seizures happen when I eat or not long after. I have went to my Neuro doctor and was not given much thought of by her. My PCP listen and took noticed and sent me to  a Allergy Doctor. After tedting everyone was very suprized, I have a intolerance to the very foods that I notice having a seizure after eating. I was told that there is no proof ,as of yet, that foods may cause a seizure. I have been adised to omit these foods from my diet and the one at a time bring them back into my diet and see what happens. My hope is someone out there has or has heard of the same weird triggers. I'm just looken for some answers !
