Want to travel with my epilepsy but..

Thu, 11/24/2016 - 16:04
Hi Everybody! I am currently in the process of getting ready to go to travelling in Canada but I have a pre-existing condition- Epilepsy which is well controlled with meds. I was wondering if I arrive in Vancouver how long I would have to wait to see a doctor to get a presciption? I intend on bringing my meds with me but can only take a three month supply ! I assume I wont have to wait longer than three months (hopefully). Also does anyone know if you have epilepsy do you pay the full price for your meds or is some of it subsidised by insurance? I take Keppra and Rufinamide are these difficult to get in Canada? I really don't want my epilepsy to stop me from travelling !! Any help would be much appreciated !.

Hi from Calgary, Canada Jordy. I know you'll have a great visit to our wonderful country. Vancouver is a beautiful, clean, friendly city, then through the mountains to Banff, Lake Louise and hopefully the amazing city of Calgary. Although your post is old, I'm answering for the benefit of someone else who might find themselves in your situation.. Jessica is a naughty girl but right on the money. My insurance at one job was going to end and I got my three month supply filled (insurance only pays for three months at a time) and went back to the pharmacy and told them that I had a seizure and lost my meds because of it. The insurance OK'd another three month refill. :)
