'Waking' a person after seizure

Sun, 04/19/2015 - 16:22

Hi to all

My daughter who is now 20 witnessed a seizure I had two years ago. She did not know what to do so the neighbor called 911 and by the time the paramedics came I was asleep. They tried to 'wake' me and move me out the door but they ended up restraining me ,giving me tranquilizers and I was so sore for weeks afterwards. Why would the paramedics do something which is absolutely not required and this is the first time I broached the topic with my daughter since the event ?. I try to put the best face on it but the truth is I still feel embarrassed and at a loss as to why they needed to take me to hospital when I just needed to rest.

When did you talk to her

When did you talk to her about you having seizures and what to do after them? If she knew you had the seizure and knew you went to sleep and that that is what is needed then she might not have called 911. I know when I had convulsive seizures and I went to sleep people played hell trying to wake me. I woke up when I woke up. Most people do not know the energy drained in any kind of seizure much less a convulsive one.....  If you didn't discuss this issue with her or she didn't tell the EMT's then they are doing their jobs which is yo assist you and a sleeping person that won't wake up or talk to them they think there is a problem that needs to have someone look at.I hope your daughter knows what to do now.Joe
