Vitamin Malabsorption and Seizure Meds

Sat, 01/17/2015 - 20:16

My name is Chris, and I have been suffering from Epilepsy and Celiac disease.

One of the most serious problems caused by Celiac Disease is Vitamin Malabsorption. I stopped eating gluten and started taking Vitamin supplements which was supposed to solve the problems.   However, taking the supplements didn't seem to help.  It was almost like I wasn't taking them at all.  I didn't know how to handle this problem.

I, then, read an article describing how it has been found that some seizure medications were found to, also, be a cause of Vitamin Malabsorption.

Over the past year, I had been taking my Tegretol at the same time as my Supplements.  There was no reason for me not to.  Because of this article I read about possible problems of seizure meds, I decided to take my Supplements over one hour before my seizure meds.  It immediately made me feel great.  Obviously, the meds were effecting the absorption of my supplements.

If anyone is taking supplements, take them at least one hour before your seizure meds, and you might find that they work significantly better.

If you are needing ti take medications of any kind always contact your neurologist and your general practitioner.. They will know which meds can counter your other meds. As for vitamins I have taken them with my meds and at a later time. Generally I take then later which does hepl butI had no problems taking them with my medications. Always check with your doctors about medications which includes over the counter medications. They too can counter medications
