focal means seizures start in

focal means seizures start in small area of the brain (they may know where, or not)dyscognitive means your perception was impaired - you weren't all there, used to be called complex partials so you will probably find more info under that term. some seizures (simple partials) occur and a person is aware and may be able to communicate normally, someone is home. complex partials do not involve the whole brain but can progress to a bigger seizure.secondary generalization means a smaller seizure spreads across the whole brain, generally resulting in a tonic clonic.

next question might be why

next question might be why does it matter... it matters because while many epilepsy medications treat most seizure types, some really are best choices to try for specific types of seizures.
