time warps

Hi, Do you ever feel like your perception of time is screwed up? This happens periodically for me. I hate to admit it, but it is like the paranoid feeling I've experienced when stoned in college (20 years ago). I get overly aware of myself and it is hard to take in what is going on around me in a timely manner. For instance, if I look at someone I end up staring because when I turn away, I realise I don't remember all that I just took in. It often happens at the grocery store. The produce guy is forever asking me if I need help finding anything. Sometimes I want to say "yes, my mind." When it has happened at church I am left wondering if I was singing really loud. That wouldn't be so bad if I had a great voice but I don't so then I worry.... It is a general spacey feeling, but no deja vu. Usually I end up having a battle with the yawns that lasts maybe 10 minutes. I hate it. I yawn and yawn and yawn which makes my eyes water and my nose run. I never see anyone else overtaken by yawning. Am I just a whiny, yawning freak?!!! Do you have weird perceptions of time and do you ever wonder if you were talking outloud without realising it? Nobody ever mentions me talking innappropriately, but sometimes I wonder.....

i under stand what you are talking about but with me i my mind is answering but my mouth won't work. it's like i am frozen in time and every one else is still going on. my neuro said it is a complex partial or partial complex, i always forget who comes first, lol. i do have a habit of yawning a lot after a seizure but i am also tired after it so thats probably why. seizures do make us tired cause they took a lot out of our brain energy wise. don't worry, you are as normal as the rest of us!!!!!!!!!!! banffgirl

Hi coopernicus. I'm really sorry to hear you are going thru this experience. I think a few of us here and out in the world realize and understand when this happens you are not at the place you really want to be. As in just how very disquieting to lose your usual mode of processing and thinking can be.... For it can as banffgirl says regarding seizure effects over time. Then you are talking really big issues here. especially if the mind won't work and the mouth does... I think it can be hard to take in anything in a serious manner when it happens... Kind of leaves you wondering in the world how you are going to cope with it? Trust me, even though I'm no doc or neuro.... Just one that's been there and seen the effects. As in feeling arid, and not in a timely manner either... Perception really gets screwed up, and you can forget who or what comes first. That includes talking to whoever in the grocery store, folding your laundry into the basket, cleaning the closet... Have you thought of getting a second opinion, or some testing done to see if there is any underlying cause going on, or discussing anything about this to your doc or neuro. Read what is written below taken from this site and then 'see' what you think. I wish you all the best with this. More so if you have ever taken anything phenobarbital med wise. Hang in there-it helps. cat. "I get the strangest feeling—most of it can't be put into words. The whole world suddenly seems more real at first. It's as though everything becomes crystal clear. Then I feel as if I'm here but not here, kind of like being in a dream. It's as if I've lived through this exact moment many times before. I hear what people say, but they don't make sense. I know not to talk during the episode, since I just say foolish things. Sometimes I think I'm talking but later people tell me that I didn't say anything. The whole thing lasts a minute or two." The features of seizures beginning in the temporal lobe can be extremely varied, but certain patterns are common. There may be a mixture of different feelings, emotions, thoughts, and experiences, which may be familiar or completely foreign. In some cases, a series of old memories resurfaces. In others, the person may feel as if everything—including home and family—appears strange. Hallucinations of voices, music, people, smells, or tastes may occur. These features are called “auras” or “warnings.” They may last for just a few seconds, or may continue as long as a minute or two. http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/epilepsy_temporallobe.html http://professionals.epilepsy.com/page/progress_cog_aed.html "Many false prophets are gone out into the world." 1 John 4:1
