Temporal Lobe Epilepsy Seizures Not Controlled

Mon, 03/16/2015 - 12:04

Hi everyone,  I was diagnosed with TLE about 10yrs ago at the age of 50.  I had not had any past seizure activity prior to that time but did have small "weird" sensations for several years before my seizures actually surfaced.  My neurologist told me that those weird feelings were small seizures.  I thought that they were me just having small panic attacks, which I have had for most of my adult life,  It wasn't until my 4th car accident and my 4th neurologist that I was finally diagnosed with TLE!  I have a scar on my temporal lobe as a result of a febrile convultion when I was a baby.

I am currently on 430mgs. of dilantin daily however, my seizures are not very well controlled with the meds.  I still have complex partial seizures once or twice a month and I have become so depressed and discouraged of late.  The longest I have gone has been about 3 months without a seizure and then I will have one.  My triggers are lack of sleep, stress and msg in foods.

I was hoping I could hear from others who have control over their seizures and get some advice or suggestions.  I would hope that there are others who share my discouragement over their seizures not being controlled and can offer some coping advice.  I have found that Epilepsy is such a lonely affliction to have and that's why it would be nice to hear from others for support.

Thanks so much for reading this and taking the time to share your experiences.

Hi Noonie.  I dealt with gran-mals and complex then mainly complex partial seizures for 15 years.  For the past 8 months i have gotten my seizures under control.  Everybody's situation is going to be different but i still tell others who deal with complex seizures to talk to there md about the following meds: vimpat, aptiom and trokendi xr and ask what they think.  There is no other seizure meds i have not tried for control and every med and suggestion to your med is worth a try.  grace and peace.
