Symptoms of seizure reoccurence

Wed, 03/08/2017 - 04:03
Hello, I have had my first seizure 7 years back. I was hospitalized immediately and treated.I was diagnosed with epilepsy then. Initially my doctor started with Levipil 5oomg 2 times a day(morning & night) and frisium 5mg 2 times a day. After approximately 3 years frisium was reduced and stopped eventually. Then after 6 months levipil was reduced to 500 mg in morning and 250 mg at night. Slowly the levipil was also reduced and completely stopped. Its been 1 month since i am without medication. Till date after the first seizure 7 years before, i have not had any other seizure. For any emergency situation (Any uneasy feeling) , my doctor had suggested to take Lonazep / Lonazep MD 0.25 mg. But 1 month after stopping medicine, i am facing the symptoms of having seizure again. (Similar experience like when i had first time). I have taken lonazep MD 0.25mg and feel little better after taking this when i experience these symptoms. This happened 3 to 4 times in a week and i was not able to walk properly and experiencing tremors, shivering and dizziness. I consulted my doctor again and explained him what happened. But doctor strongly believes that what i experienced was not a seizure symptom or a fit and its more of psychological related. He now has asked me to take Lonazep 0.25 mg twice a day and Inderal 10mg twice a day for 3 weeks. My doctor feels i will be alright eventually and there is no need of levipil or any other epileptic medicine again unless i have a seizure again. But even when i am taking these new medicine, i am experiencing the same symptoms. Can you please advise on the possible causes of what i am experiencing and any remedial measures i need to take care of. Thanks in advacnce!

did your first

did your first hospitalization include an eeg that got anything of note? have you had a long enough eeg since going off meds. e.g. if you have symptoms every x days, you'd want an eeg that would hit that period if possible which sounds like maybe a few days for you. there are ambulatory eegs that could do that easily as it's probably harder to get into an emu but ask about things which can gather better data than your doc assuming something. if you can get in to see an epileptologist, that's also a good way to review your case.

Its been 1 month since i am without medication.  Generally it takes 4-6 weeks for the therapeutic levels to be completely out of your body. Meaning those episodes could be seizures.Amy Jo [posted what you need to look at and that is an EEG that is long and or sleep deprived. The ambulatory EEG can give the neurologists more to look at is hard to get into a EMU. Yes she posted getting in to see an epileptologist. They specialize in epilepsy. Give them any records you have or can get and be honest with the answers you give the neurologists
