Switching from Trileptal to Lamictal

Sat, 02/03/2007 - 22:59
Has anyone switched from Trilptal to Lamictal. I'm switching because I've been on Trilptal for 5 years (the last grand mal I had was 5 years ago) and I'm tired of being dumb all the time. I'm lathorgic, tired, and forgetful and have problems with word retrieval on most days, and may be in premature menapause becuase the affects the meds may have on women's hormones. But, besides that I've been fine on Trilpetal. My nuerologist has let me lower my dosage over the last year (I just tell him what I'm doing and he says OK...maybe I need a new nuerologist!), I was on 1200mg and I'm now on 750mg. I'm a little afraid of switching since the side affects for the Lamictal seem terrible, such as the deadly rash. Is Lamictal a good medication to control grand mals (what is the current name?). I have 2 small children who are in the car with me 3 hours a day, so I am very concerned about swithing to a medication that may not be affective. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks abunch. LA
