Support?

Sun, 06/28/2015 - 18:30

Where do you get support?  I am feeling very frustrated with my brain and I wish I had someone to talk to about it.  I was dx'ed about 3 years ago and I'm still struggling with seizures.  I've tried a few different meds without success.  I just started on Gabapentin about two months ago and increased dosage this week, but sz continue.  It's frustrating and it's lonely.  I guess I'm just wondering how all of you get through the emotional side of things- who gives you support as you go through this illness?

There are epilepsy

There are epilepsy foundations for specific regions (normally by state) that would be a great place to start looking for someone who can listen, or even set you up with a group of people who are in the same position as you. Just shoot them an email or call them up and they will most definitely help you. Best of luck.

Thanks for responding Ryan.

Thanks for responding Ryan.  I did call my local epilepsy foundation early on in my dx.  Unfortunately, they were the opposite of helpful- rude, impatient, and unwilling to give me any info.  They only kept referring me to the website.  sigh.  It was a disappointment, but maybe I'll try again at some point.

Katie, thanks so much for

Katie, thanks so much for replying.  I'm sorry that you are feeling lonely with it too.  I think it's difficult for me because the people around me just don't understand what it's like.  A support group would be nice.  I'll have to keep looking.  Best wishes to you!
