Strange things happening. Can you help?

Wed, 02/08/2006 - 14:26
Hi all I was wondering if you could help me. I have had a couple of strange experiences which I think may be simple partial seizures. I do get these but these new ones have been a bit strange. I will try and describe them. The first one was when I was taking my guide dog for a walk. It was really strange. I felt as though I was in a dream. I felt as though I was walking on cotton wool and the air was really thick and pressing in around me. I kind of knew where I was and where I was going but it just didn't seem real, as I said it seemed like I was in a dream. This lasted about then minutes. The next thing that has happened a few times is that I keep getting these flashing lights in my eyes. they are like dull flashing lights. The best way I can explain it is this. It is like seeing the lights of a cars headlights through a curtain at night. The flashing continues for a few minutes then goes. (hope that makes sense), this makes my head feel odd, I found that I need to sleep after. Do these sound like Simple partial seizures? I hope this makes sense. thanks for reading take care Honeybear

Hi Honeybear. I think if it

Hi Honeybear. I think if it was me writing this post, the answer I'd be looking for would be this below. To be really sure of what's happening, your best bet really is to talk to your neuro or doc to be safe when out walking again. Can I ask if you been out walking in a place that was new to you when this happened? If so, do you think stress could have triggered this new strange sensation you describe happened to you? Simple partial seizures in these areas can produce sensations such as a sense of a breeze on the skin; unusual hissing, buzzing, or ringing sounds; voices that are not really there; unpleasant tastes; strange smells (also usually unpleasant); and, perhaps most upsetting of all, distortions in the way things look. http://www.trileptal.com/info/understanding/simple-partial-seizures.jsp I'm no doctor or neuro, but this might help explain things about the balls of light you saw. The fourth area of the brain which can be the source of a simple partial seizure is the occipital lobe, responsible for our vision. It follows, therefore, that the symptoms of these seizures are to do with the way we see things. Flashing lights, balls of light or strange colours are typical symptoms, affecting half of the vision. Again, this occurs in the opposite side of the body to the lobe where the seizure originates. http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/info/simple.html Hang in there, and stay upbeat and positive. Cat.

Hi Cat thank you so much for replying. I knew the area very well where I was walking with my guide dog so stress was not an issue at all. I walk that route everyday with my guide dog. It was just such a horrible sensation. I just don't like things changing. I hate the unpredicatability of things. thanks again Honeybear

Hi Honeybear, I started having that feeling about a year ago. I described as slipping into a concious daydream. The first time I had one I was driving and it seemed like the radio was in the background. I even remember trying to adjust it. I'd normally only had Gran mauls to that point so it was weird but then they started happening all the time I feel tight and breathless even though I was breathing fine. My doctor told me they were auras like partial siezures. I dont have and real answers I'm still struggling but at least I knew something to tell you so thank you for your post I guess I to know something about this
