Still looking for a job!

Wed, 03/22/2017 - 23:33
I've had epilepsy for 22 years come this March 25th. I started having seizures when I was 10. My first job was when I was 16 but I was laid off within 2 weeks cause of having just 1 seizure just like 2 of my other jobs of the 4 I've had. I don't have daily grand mal seizures anymore. I only have 3-5 abscense seizures a month. I grew up having anywhere from 1-8 grand mal seizures a day for several years. I've gone to college and lost over $40,000 mostly cause of ITTtech and a community college. For the last 11.5 years I've been volunteering at a hospital ER and still they haven't offered me a job. Whatever happened to on the job training??? Going to college seems to only be for the rich. Transportation is a problem for me cause my mom works days while my dad works nights and they are divorced. I get a small SSDI check but its only enough to pay my few bills mostly. I'm not from a rich family like some of my friends that have seizures so I will obviously need money at some time. If you have any good jobs that you have done for years or have now that pay well where you don't need a degree, tell me.

State employment offices have a person that is to assist the handicapped find jobs. Yes they know companies that hire and can work with the companies to find people that are looking for full or part time employment. Try there first.

Adding to what joe said-most

Adding to what joe said-most entry level positions also are not high paying or even well paying jobs-especially without a degree.  My mother worked 30 years in the same field and was in management for over half that time.  Because she never got a college degree, she made less than those below her who did.If you are interested in college, try asking the hospital you volunteer at if they know of any grants, scholarships or assistance programs.  There are thousands of grants out there that offer college assistance.

I'm going to go to the state

I'm going to go to the state governor or send him a letter to try to help everyone that has epilepsy and most of the adults. I've worked as much as 60 hours a week but still I have never made much money anywhere just like every other person who has epilepsy.
