Trileptal can cause low sodium for some people. But you are on such a low dose. Are you getting more seizures than usually? THen you might what to bring that up to your doctor. ANd have your sodium check too just to be sure. I used to have it check the day after it would happen. take care and hang in there Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/

Hi Jana - It's not unusual for people with seizures to have to try different medication, medication combinations until the right one is found to gain control of your sz's. Someone here just posted too they were fine on one AED for 10 years and then it stopped working for them. You've been on this AED since 3/6 which was 2 months ago. Were you given criteria besides keeping a sz diary on when to expect a sz reduction? I always ask now. I also always ask if and when I'm to get a blood level, if that AED requires one to see if your dosage is therapeutic and/or how your body is reacting to that AED, metabolizing it. For example one of the AEDs I take, my blood levels are right in the middle but I take what's considered for most a subtherapeutic dose. If they didn't check my blood levels constantly I'd be toxic, on the beginning dose, which on this drug causes increase of sz's - using that ONLY as an example. I know with me I have had doctors forget to order blood levels, that's why I ask. I also have some level of tension when I have a doctor's appointment. Make notes to read when you get home to make sure you know, if it's not written down, when you are to increase and in what increments. Often it's written on the script or on the starter pack, but sometimes not. Good luck Gretchen
