Start Driving Again

I discussed this with my parents and neurologist and they feel my driving will be safe for the public. I want to apply for a drivers license because my mother has scoliosis, and stenosis. She has also had four major back surgeries that have not helped her. She must deal with pain all day and all night. I simply want to run errands for her so she can do what she enjoys most and that is gardening. This will not take away pain and by days end the pain will be more severe, but gardening will take her mind off of it. I took all legal steps first. I was finally able to find the last seizure I had while awake and that was September 2, 1999. My neurologist supplied his write up and the date of my last seizure while awake to the Department of Public Safety. The Medical Unit Drivers License Division found everything acceptable. My neurologist must supply them a report every six months. I do not plan on driving when or if I know I had seizures the night before. I had three seizures last night so if I had my license I would not drive today. I would want to be more alert. I hope more Nocturnal Epileptics are able to drive.

Hi Loner.....does your doctor know that you just had 3 seizures last night? Does that need to be documented and have it be known to the Dept. of Public Safety? I know that you want to help your mother and I applaud you for that, but I'm wondering if the fact that you had 3 seizures last night would change their minds. Well, do what you think is best and be careful out on the road. Seizuregirl "Life is what you make of it"

My doctor says it is 6 months from the last seizure you have before you can drive. I have most of mine at night while I am asleep, but I still have to report them. I know its hard. I am new to the whole not driving thing. I have not been able to drive since February. I has 3 months behind me and I then I had 2 more seizures last week. So now its November. We are all here for you. Good luck.

I am doing what I know is best and I have know fear in hurting any other drivers. I will ask you like I asked someone else, "How can the seizure or seizures I have in my sleep put anyone else endanger?" Should I have taken the advice from someone who works at the Dept. of Public Safety and not report that I have epilepsy. I have been giving seizure reports to my neurologist since 1984 except for the years I had the two brain surgeries and was used for a rat test. The medical board will know I had the seizures because I will supply the info. to my neurologist who will give them the information. I have never LIED ABOUT MY EPILEPSY. No one can suggest I hide my seizures, putting someone else endanger is the last thing I would do. So in six months after the medical board sees my seizure report and they decide to take my license away I will turn to my lawyer. Tell me which is the safer driver, a alcoholic, drug addict, or and eepileptic who has nocturnal seizures? Good Luck, E_Loner
