Seizures came back different

Tue, 03/10/2015 - 13:10

Hello, All.

New here. This is my first post. I was first diagnosed with epilepsy in 1978. I had experienced 2 gm seizures, in about a 6 month time. No family history of any seizure disorders. Started on Dilantin and Clonipin, took both for over 15 years. After being seizure free for over 10 years, my Drs slowly reduced my meds until I was completely off. It was a little difficult at first, but I soon adapted to life with out meds. The hardest part is that I have reading epilepsy. Try going through the day without reading.

I remained seizure free until about 4 months ago. But this time, the seizures are different. I get a dull headache on one side, which lasts all day. Sometimes I wake up with it. At different times of the day, I will feel a sharp stab on the same side of my head, followed by a tightening of my jaw and facial muscles. Also, my vision will reduce down to tunnel vision and I cant really hear anything discernable. If I am having a conversation with someone, they will look at me funny, usually because they have asked me something, and I have not responded. Sometimes I have to ask them to repeat what they said.

Does anyone have any experience with these types of seizures? My Dr has me on Depacote. It has reduced the headache pain, and cut the incidents by about half. The Depacote is really hard on my stomach, and it makes me feel light headed and slightly disconnected.

Thanks for any input you have. I was glad to find this website.

Reading epilepsy?????( No

Reading epilepsy?????( No such thing ) Is this because you. cannot recognize or associate with words or a sentence? If I am corret this is a type of aphasia that usually happens in the post ictal part of a Sz..his happens to me but not frequently. Sometimes it will not allow me to read. Sometimes just not understand. Lordy that is frustrating. Mine can hang on for about 3 hrs, after the sz. then it  vanishes........The Tunnel Vision is usually  experienced within the seizure. You nailed that one on the head. The aphasia part is due to the area hit by the abnormal chemical discharge. The Temp Lobe.of the brain. Just do not fight the situation. Give yourself the time to unwind. If you fight the situation you will really exhaust yourself.

Acasto....... Please pardon

Acasto....... Please pardon me. Reading Epilepsy does exist. As Amy Joe noted it is a form of ReflexEpilepsy.

Acasto...... Please Google Reading Epilepsy.....If seizures do occur ONLY when you are reading, Reading Epilepsy is correct. Thanks because I would like to clarify this for any person who might come across this Post.
