Seizures and Migraines... any connection?

Mon, 03/13/2006 - 14:11
Hello, My question: Can seizures and migraines be connected? I have LEFT sided temporal lobe epilepsy. I also have TMJ-grind teeth, which can cause headaches, mostly on my RIGHT side. I have had migraines in the past, but rarely. (more backround info below) Today's symptoms: nausea, vomiting, severe headache on the RIGHT side only that started at the temple and then to the entire right side (I woudl think if it was a seizure the headache would be on the LEFT, but unsure), sensitivity to light & sound... these seem to define a migraine (I believe I was grinding my teeth last night also)... but is there any other connections between the two? The 2 seizures I had occured in some sort of sleep state, so I'm concerned. If anyone experiences something similar or knows more about this I would really appreciate any backround info I can find. ** ANY helpful info on how someone with epilespy should treat migraines (meds, etc.) also appreciated! Thank you! Backround: I was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilesy (on the LEFT side) about 3 years ago due severe head injury. I had a grand-mal seizure when I fell asleep at the hospital. I have had one other definate grand-mal seizure since then (6months ago). I also had an episode similar to what happened this morning about 1month ago. I noticed all of these occured during or shortly after menstruation, although my doctor doesn't know if hormones are a problem, but doesn't seemed concerned. I also have TMJ, and jaw joint problem that causes pain on my RIGHT side, grinding of teeth while asleep, and sometimes headaches.
