Seizures and methotrexate
Fri, 05/08/2015 - 14:25Hi! Like everyone else here, I'm always looking for seizure triggers and causes. I have rheumatoid arthritis and have taken methotrexate since about 2003. In about 2004-2005 I began having what were later diagnosed as partial seizures by my neuro when I was diagnosed with E in 2014.
I thought I was properly informed, but upon reviewing all my RX med info lately, I found something new that I never knew before: that seizures were a rare but serious side effect of methotrexate (I believe that was added to the warnings a while after I began the med, 2006-ish...).
Does anyone else have seizures that began after starting methotrexate? I'm trying to decide if this thought is worth pursuing or of I'm just obsessing and going down another crazy blind alley. I'd love to find and eliminate a possible cause for this annoying, inconvenient disease if it would stop my TC drop seizures and help restore my independence.

I honestly agree with you. In Jan. 2009 I had my son. June of 2009 I had the birth control Mirena IUD placed. May of 2010 I found out that I was pregnant. It so happend to be an ectopic pregnancy. The doctors removed the IUD, gave me a shot of Methotrexate, to let my body naturally abort the pregnancy. A week after is when I started seizing. I have be been having them every since. May of 2010.
