Seizures and activity??

Sun, 11/12/2006 - 20:27
Hello - I'm new here, the mother of a 42 year old son (Mark), with epilepsy. I have noticed that if he does around 15 minutes of any type of work, strenuous or not, he will have a seizure - complex partial is what the neuro called it. Sometimes it can take just a bit of walking to produce seizure. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a connection between activity and seizure? I'd sure appreciate some input here, as we're going to see the neuro soon and I'd really like to be able to relate some similar stories to him. Thank you for your help. Diane.

Hi Diane, Sometimes, activities around the house will send me into a seizure, but most of the time, it is when I am doing things such as mopping, heavy-duty laundry, etc. What seems to happen to me is that I hyper-ventilate, and on comes a seizure. I hope you find some answers. Stressing on something your doing to HARD can bring your seizures. After I had this V.N.S.MACHINE installed in me it put a major slow down in having so many seizures and so close together. banditte1

Wow - I thank you so much for your input. I have been dealing with Mark's epilepsy for 26 years, through many specialists, and have aked over and over about the connection with activity and seizure, and not one doctor has acknowledged that possibility. And here, two of you wonderful people have answered the question in a matter of minutes! You are fantastic. I even asked one neurologist, who was famous throughout Canada and Europe, about the possibility of having Mark exercise and therefore hyperventilate during an EEG, and he said there was no way to do it, and he'd never heard of the connection. Well, armed with your experiences, I am going to our latest neuro very soon, and will approach him on this topic, and ask about the various treatments, such as VNS. Many thanks again, my new friends, and I'm going to keep in touch with this forum forever ;>) Gratefully, Diane.
