Seizure on Sunday morning

Mon, 10/17/2016 - 22:40
Hello everyone my name isSkye and I have been seizure free for 10 years, However this past Sunday morning I thought I had a seizure here is what happened I was in the bathroom and everything went black however I don't think I loss consciousness but could be wrong anyway I felt my eyes rapidly blinking fast. I also felt my body shaking and my right arm hurts even when I do something as gentle as lay it on an arm chair there is pain! Could I of hurt it while I was having a seizure? I take 1,500'mg of Keppra twice a day and Vimpat twice a day. I called my doctor she ordered a blood test to see what my med levels are. She also instructed me to take Ativan right after a seizure if they happen again. I teach elementary school I don't want to tell my new boss that I have Epilepsy (old one knew), I especially don't want to tell him that I have an anti-anxiety drug in my possession. I have told my friend who is a deputy sheriff he has instructed me to keep the Ativan with me and call him if one were to occur and he will take me to the hospital. My questions are do you think I hurt my right arm while having a seizure? Do I need to tell my new boss about epilepsy? I don't want to get fired! Also should I let the deputy sheriff who is at my school know about the Ativan I have? I hope all my doctor needs to do is up my medicine and life continues as normal. Thanks in advance for your help.

She also instructed me to

She also instructed me to take Ativan right after a seizure if they happen again<<<< If it to be taken right after the seizure it is what is also known as a rescue medication. I take the generic form after a seizure dosage is 1mg. It keeps the seizure from going into a cluster. Clusters can go into status epilepticus. As for it being an anxiety medication you can do a little more research/ Look up lorazepam in Wikipedia. It has also been used for seizure control and is an anticonvulsant. So they should have no problem with you having it with you. By right after the seizure they are talking about minutes and as few as possible. Your neurologist is trying to keep you controlled and keep you from clustering seizures. With me my seizures are partial. and within minutes after the first I can have another one. If I don't have it with me then I can have up to 4-5. They have all happened in a period of 8 minutes if I don't take the lorazepam. After taking it I am back to normal without any problems. As for telling your new boss it might not hurt since you never know when you might have a seizure and minutes are involved. If the lorazepam does its job you may not need to go to the hospital But let the Sherriff know since if he sees you in a seizure he knows that a medication needs to be given shortly after it. I have mine in a pill bottle you can get from the drug stores. It can carry medications and has a key holder on it.Cluster seizures can be controlled. Status epilepticus is not good and the hospitals use lorazepam to bring the person out of it. I hope this helpsJoe
