"Seizure Potential"

Wed, 03/14/2007 - 05:49
I was told my EEG showed "seizure potential" to which I responded "Doesn't everyone have seizaure potential"? My thinking was, if you have a brain, you have the potential for anything to be wrong with it...that doesn't mean there's something wrong though. I was referred to him for the smells and other symptoms that let me know I was experiencing things that could not possibly be real, but the felt real. Anyhow, he answered "No". Has anyone else heard this term used? My MRI was normal. It was the EEG that was screwed up.

My daughter has had seizures, and we were told the same thing with her EEG. She showed abnormal spikes and waves which are not normally seen in an EEG if you do not have seizures. This is what shows her "potential for seizures", also she had abnormal activity with the photo-sensitivity test. By having abnormal spikes and waves it show that her threshold for seizures is more than if she did not have them. Hope this helps. Lori

After my "grand mal" seizure (that came out of nowhere one day) I had an EEG & the neuro. told me that it showed I was "predisposed" to seizures. I said, "Huh?" and that's when he told me that the seizure potential was there. Well, obviously!
