Seizure control & blood pressure issues

Tue, 12/02/2014 - 12:44

Hi, I have tonic clonic seizures & complex partial seizures. I have had lots of issues over the last 8 years but I finally thought everything was well until August. I went to my primary doctor due to high blood pressure. She put me on medicine & did a lot of bloodwork. My vitamin D was very low & my thyroid came back high. She added thyroid medicine & vitamin D supplement. Also, at this time my neurologist was trying to wean me off one of my medicines (Keppra) while increasing the other (Lamictal). I began feeling extremely bad.....fatigue, headaches, muscle aches & some confusion. My neurologist did a 48 hour EEG & it did show some seizure activity while I was sleeping so my neurologist put me back on my regular dose of Keppra. She also did bloodwork which showed my vitamin D was extremely high. I still felt bad so I went back to my primary doctor & he switched my blood pressure medicine & increased my thyroid medicine & took me off the vitamin D supplement for awhile. Then I felt even worse & my blood pressure was worse (like 175/105). I called my primary doctor & they never returned my call. I called my neurologist & she said the blood pressure shouldn't effect my seizures but any blood pressure issues I have need to be addressed with my prmary doctor. So I took myself off of the medicine. I was feeling better for a few days & my blood pressure is better but still a little high (160/85). However the last few days I feel bad again &  my family says I am staring again & very confused afterwards. I am not sleeping well. I wake up several times throughout the night so I can't hardly wake up in the morning. On the days I am able to sleep in I feel better (not great but better). My neurologist has ordered another EEG to see if my seizure activity on my last EEG was because of my medicine change or if I am still having uncontrolled seizures. She also has ordered a sleep study however both these tests could not be scheduled for several weeks. I am so frustrated. I don't even know what to think anymore. I am starting to feel like I am crazy!!! I was wondering if anyone else has had issues with their seizures & blood pressure. Any advice or help would be much appreciated!!

I don't have a complete

I don't have a complete diagnosis because I can't afford the sleep study. Was treated for myocloni jerks which have gotten worse every few years something different. I never had b/p problems but at times after having episodes,I had a b/p of 178/120. I've been off medicine for years because before I stopped working and ended up without ins, the meds weren't working and I'm constantly told I needed a sleep study. I've been researching and believe I have progressive myocloni epilepsy and am looking to do clinical research. St times I can't walk or speak. Today for the first time my eyes were rolling back and I'm aware of everything. Hope you find a solution. My gate is off more and feel crazy sometimes too.

Hi RosieAfter a seizure your PB will be eleviated. Also Yes there are people who have issues like yours. There were times when I knew my BP was higher then it needed or shold have been and it was not the medications I was on. I was diagnosed with a irregular heart beat back in 97-98 and my regular doctor stated if I eer went to the ER and they ran a EKG and said everythings fine and your heart beat iis ok I was not to leave. Did your regular doctor take an EKG. If not then you might want to have one taken. I say that because at times I would be a my neurologists ffice and it would be racing but after leaving there and going to my regular doctors office it was perfect. The irregular heart beat was changing to intermitant a-fib abd intermitant a- flutter. Which have now changed to A-fib with intermitant a-flutter. The medication I take for it keeps the BPM at rates they should be at. It it goes up or I know it is racing all i have to do is take a half of that pill I hope this helps
